When tragedy strikes a family of five, a woman, overcome with grief finds the courage to encourage and educate others through her grief process.

Synopsis

Grief is something we all have or will experience. It is a lifelong journey we often ignore. Ride the Wave takes us through various aspects of grief from family, friends, doctors who have lost patients that became friends. Police officers who have to make notifications, first responders and many more.

Treatment Or Sypnosis

"Ride the Wave" transcends traditional narratives of grief by offering a holistic approach that addresses the diverse experiences individuals face when mourning the loss of a loved one. The book not only provides solace and understanding but also empowers readers to embrace their grief as a natural part of the healing process.

In a groundbreaking development, "Ride the Wave" has inspired an upcoming documentary of the same title, set to commence filming in July 2025. The documentary will feature candid interviews with individuals who have grappled with profound loss; including those who have lost a parent, a child, a sibling, a friend, as well as medical professionals who have experienced the toll of losing patients.

Author Zipporiah S. Brockman's dedication to destigmatizing grief and fostering open conversations around loss has earned her widespread acclaim in the field of bereavement counseling. Her unique perspective and compassionate approach shines through her writing, offering a beacon of hope to those in mourning and a roadmap for navigating the turbulent waters of grief.

"Ride the Wave: Your Relationship with Grief" is a heartfelt and illuminating exploration of the human experience of loss, inviting readers to embrace their emotions and ultimately find healing through understanding. This poignant book and its accompanying documentary promise to touch hearts, spark conversations, and illuminate the transformative power of acknowledging and honoring grief.

Artistic Statement

This documentary is my life story. After losing both of my brothers and my grandmother within 18 months. I had no idea about grief and how it could take a toll on your life. A year and a half later , my mother suffered a massive heart attack and stroke to which she temporarily succumbed. After 8 minutes she was revived, but the same woman that had just left my house a few hours earlier was not the same woman that returned 5 months later.

The purpose for this documentary is to show the different sides of grief. That grief is not always centered around death. My mother was a national recording artist and preacher. When she was awakened from her coma, she could barely speak, she is unable to walk a long distance and that beautiful singing voice now trembles when she belts out a song. Not only that, the brain injury she suffered has left her visually impaired and dealing with moderate dementia. While she is in good spirits , the process for others on that side of grief aren't so lucky.

I had to walk this path alone. My brothers were not here to help cushion all of the losses. 8 months after my mother got sick, my grandfather passed and the following year my best friend died.I felt like I wasn't going to survive any of this, but I did. I did the work and I and still doing it.

Grief can be tricky. You can grieve the loss of a loved one, a marriage, a friendship, etc. However here, we are focusing on grief in the aspect of death and those who remain. Speaking with a doctor in our city, she stated that she retired because she hated developing relationships with her patients and when they pass away she has to grieve the loss of not just a patient, but a friend. How do police officers handle a crime scene when there is a death? How does it make them feel having to do the notification? Is it triggering, especially if they have lost a loved one? Funeral home staff, how do they handle families before, during and after the loved one is buried? EMT staff, Trauma nurses, Hospice Care staff, Pastors having eulogize members of their church? Children who lose their parents (younger and older).

My desire is open dialogue in a public venue (which will be the final day of production) and talk about grief. Open the floor for people to ask those tough questions but also share some of the tips and tools that I have discovered on my healing journey.

To remind people that grief does not look the same for everyone and to also help them create a healthy and safe grief space that fits their life. A space that not only gives them a breakdown of what to expect, but to also encourage healthy habits that will allow them to continue to flourish in their day to day living.
